Saskatchewan NDP kicks off campaign with promises of no tax hikes, suspending gas tax

SASKATOON, Sask. — Saskatchewan New Democrats have kicked off their election campaign promising to not hike taxes and to suspend the gas tax.

Leader Carla Beck says people are struggling to afford everyday goods and deserve a break.

Her plan would mean no increases to income taxes, small business taxes, provincial sales tax and corporate tax.

She says an NDP government would pay for its spending commitment by growing the economy, finding efficiencies and cutting the governing Saskatchewan Party’s wasteful expenditures.

Saskatchewan’s election is set to be held on or before Oct. 28.

Beck’s NDP is the Official Opposition in the legislature and has 14 seats, with the Saskatchewan Party holding 42 to go with four Independents and one vacant seat.
