CHARLOTTETOWN — The Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island says it has only one leadership candidate.

The party says in a news release that Dan Kutcher was the sole approved candidate when the nomination period closed.

Kutcher resigned as mayor of Summerside, P.E.I., last month to run in the Liberal leadership race.

He was elected mayor in 2022, and previously said he wouldn’t run again in the municipal election this November.

He has also told local media he would seek the Liberal nomination for a provincial district that covers part of the eastern side of the city.

The Liberal party says Kutcher will continue to engage with Islanders ahead of the party’s leadership convention on Sept. 13.
